| Dog parks in the works--St. Charles County
This page offers community reports on news, events, and developments from both St. Charles County Parks and Recreation and St. Charles County municipalities actively exploring and advocating for the creation of off-leash recreation areas in their neighborhoods. Areas include: If you frequent the Quail Ridge County Park Off-Leash Area and are interested in helping keep the dog park safe and healthy for people and dogs, please contact Kent James at the St. Charles County Parks Department or call the department at 636-949-7535 or email the department at parks@stcharlescounty.org. Additional dog park under development The St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department (the same that gave us Quail Ridge) will open another dog park at the future Broemmelsiek Park in western St. Charles County. The park is tentatively set to open in autumn 2006, barring any construction delays, etc. The off leash area is planned to be 2-3 acres in size with a small pond (just for the doggies) that is currently on the site. Because this park is undeveloped, it is not open to the public yet. Mark your calendars for the Leash Cutting Ceremony for the new DuSable Dog Park on Saturday, November 18 at 1:00pm. We hope you and your canine friends can join the festivities as we celebrate the opening of the much anticipated off leash canine recreation area in the City of St.Charles. If you would be interested in joining the volunteer group to help educate visitors at the dog park, please let me know. This is a great opportunity for you to get involved and make our dog park successful. Please download and print this invitation (PDF) to share with all your family and friends. Right now there are plans for two dog parks which are both scheduled to open next year (exact dates are unknown). The second dog park has recently been added to the schedule based on the number of dogs which have been moving into the area with their humans. The original four or five acre park is in Phase 2. A half acre park has been added to Phase 1. To visit the New Town Development, take Hwy. 370 to north on New Town Blvd. Go 1 1⁄2 miles to the community on the right.
